Perfectionism Will Kill
Thats a damn dramatic title but its something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately.
Perfectionism will kill.
It will kill your spirit, your fire, your creativity, and ultimately you if its given the chance.
Perfectionism comes in various forms and a lot of us, myself included, may not even realise they’re victim to it.
It looks like, never completing a project because it’s not quite right, not even starting a project because you haven’t got everything prepared’, putting things off because ‘it’s not the right time’, shelving a great idea because you’re ‘not good enough’ or ‘haven’t got the skills required’ to complete it… the list goes on and on and on.
Does any of these sound like you?
So the question becomes, how the actual fuck do we get past it.
My advice?
get perfect later. get started now.
Now as much as I would love to claim I came up with that saying, I didn’t. I actually read it in a book about money adequately titled ‘Money’ by Rob Moore.
But it’s a theme I seem to see in every book I read written by masters of their craft.
The quickest way to succeed is by starting as soon as possible. It’s got absolutely nothing to do with starting perfect because no one can start perfect.
How could you? You’ve got no experience.
Now for those self-titled ‘perfectionists’ out there, stop calling yourself that. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Instead, and this is for the self-titled and the ones that don’t realise it’s holding them back, get started, NOW.
How can you say you don’t have the skills required for a project if you’ve not even started it? How can you know what skills it even requires?!
How can you know what you need to prepare if you haven’t dived in?
The blessing of being human is our innate creativity and desire to solve problems. Get started, solve some problems and work towards success.
Do you know what the beauty of this fast-food-style culture is? People forget things as fast as they get introduced to them.
If you put a project out into the world and you’re not happy with it, who cares?
Start again, start over, iterate, re-vamp, re-create, re-build. Learn. Just start. And start again. And again. It’s the only way you’re going to get better. Hell, it’s the only way you’re going to succeed.
Get Perfect Later. Get Started Now.
Peace ✌️
